SENSEI BRUCE HYLAND 6th Dan

In 1972 Bruce began Karate, he achieved Black Belt 1st Dan in 1975, and he is currently a 6th Dan Black Belt awarded to him by Sensei Ticky Donovan 9th Dan in 2008.

His first dojo was at the Chelsea Life Saving Club, in 1975, it moved to the Seaford in 1980.

Bruce had a competition career that spanned from 1975 - with a nineteen-year hiatus from 1986 to 2005. He has competed 51 “OPEN” Championships winning sixteen, placing second eleven times and placing third 10 times. Bruce place third at the Asian Pacific Karate Championships in 1985, winning the AKF National and State championship the same year. Returning to competition in 2005 winning National All Styles National and State Championships.

Appointed State Coach in 1987 and Senior State Coach from 1989 to 2000,in 2009 was interim Head Kumite Coach the appointed Head Kumite for three years 2010 to 2012.National Coach from 1992 to 2005, coaching fifteen teams at International events including both Senior and Junior World Championships.

Bruce's philosophy is simple as a Karate Teacher:

BEGINNERS; Book your Guest lesson and have a 1 on 1 or group session with Bruce Sensei. Your guestlesson is an introduction to ISHNRYU KARATE, you will learn how to prepare physically for Karate with a warm-up which improves your cardio, strength, stamina and flexibility. Sensei will teach you some basics/kihon techniques:Stances-Punching-Strikes-Blocks-Kicks in your very guest lesson and the etiquette of the dojo.
